ABSTRACT

Objetivo: analisar quais variáveis tecnológicas, derivadas do uso de dispositivos eletrônicos, predizem o estresse acadêmico e suas dimensões em estudantes de enfermagem. Método: estudo transversal do tipo analítico, realizado em 796 estudantes de seis universidades do Peru. Foi utilizada a escala SISCO e foram estimados quatro modelos de regressão logística para a análise, com seleção das variáveis por etapas. Resultados: entre os participantes, 87,6% apresentaram alto nível de estresse acadêmico;o tempo de uso do aparelho eletrônico, o brilho da tela, a idade e o sexo foram associados ao estresse acadêmico e suas três dimensões;a posição de uso do aparelho eletrônico foi associada à escala total e às dimensões estressores e reações. Por fim, a distância entre o rosto e o dispositivo eletrônico foi associada à escala total e à dimensão das reações. Conclusão: variáveis tecnológicas e características sociodemográficas predizem estresse acadêmico em estudantes de Enfermagem. Sugere-se otimizar o tempo de uso dos computadores, regular o brilho da tela, evitar sentar-se em posições inadequadas e atentar-se à distância da tela, a fim de diminuir o estresse acadêmico durante o ensino a distância.

ABSTRACT

(20171 purported that "increased nursing education enrolments to cater for possible future nursing shortages, (ii) decreased state expenditure on health services and, (iii) graduate employment dictated by staff vacancies rather than ensuring sustainability of the future workforce" (p. 251) are contributing factors. Sample and Data Collection Convenience sampling technique was used, and to ensure sufficient data sampling, two cohorts of graduating students were Invited to participate. The online survey data collection Incorporated closed and opened ended questions about participant engagement with the profession of nursing. All study participants, including the graduates with a previous Diploma of Nursing, provided a 100% response rate to their intention to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board as a registered nurse (RN).

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: avaliar a satisfação com o trabalho de profissionais de enfermagem que atuaram na assistência e na gestão, durante a pandemia de COVID-19. Método: estudo epidemiológico de corte transversal. Participaram 334 profissionais de enfermagem de um hospital de ensino. Foram calculadas as frequências absolutas e relativas das variáveis qualitativas e as médias das variáveis numéricas. Foram comparadas as médias dos resultados dos domínios da escala de satisfação profissional (Job Satisfaction Survey) com variáveis sociodemográficas-laborais. Foram aplicados os testes t de Student, Mann-Whitney, Anova seguidos de pós-teste de Tukey, Kruskal-Wallis ou Dunn, para verificar a significância estatística dos resultados com nível crítico de 0,05. Resultados: 90 profissionais demonstraram-se satisfeitos com o trabalho, três profissionais demonstraram-se insatisfeitos e 241 profissionais demonstraram-se ambivalentes. Conclusão: foi evidenciada uma ambivalência dos trabalhadores de enfermagem em relação à sua satisfação com o trabalho, durante o período da pandemia de COVID-19. Os achados indicam um caminho para que gerentes e formuladores de política em saúde façam investimentos em planos de carreira e ambiente de trabalho que melhorem as condições de trabalho dos trabalhadores de enfermagem.

ABSTRACT

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic response, Wati began working as a kaimahi (health care assistant) at Te Hä Oranga, operated by Ngäti Whätua, in Dargaville. Wati, 54, was the first student to graduate with an EN diploma from NorthTec under the University of Auckland initiative. Since graduating as an EN, she has worked with young people, providing lifestyle assessments and early intervention for drug and alcohol use, anxiety, depression, and domestic violence. ENs, as a professional group, have suffered hurt and distress as a result of demeaning attitudes which questioned their value in the health system - with the role abolished altogether from 1993 to 2002, the article said.

May 24, 2023 A hard-won one-hour strike by 24 Gisborne Hospital ward 5 nurses and health-care assistants (HCAs) this afternoon drew "huge" support, says an emotional nurse who led the fight all the way to the courtoom. In December, Gisborne Hospital nurse health and safety representative Carole Wallis lodged a provisional improvement notice (PIN) recommending five actions including reducing the beds on ward 5 - an acute medical and COVID ward - from 25 to 20. Te whatu Ora argued its hospital was taking steps on four of the five recommendations - including recruiting specifically for ward 5 - but did not agree reducing bed numbers on the ward would resolve the issues.

What this paper adds: * This case study demonstrated that facilitating ongoing education opportunities that draw on the expertise of local palliative care champions or internal specialists can enhance care provision. * Nurse care managers believe the value of generalist services, particularly home care services, in the generalist-specialist palliative care partnership, needs to be understood and respected. * Tailored investment in home care to provide a general palliative approach would be beneficial given the unique challenges of this mobile workforce. Keywords: Palliative care;home care services;Education, Nursing;qualitative research;Nurse Practitioner BACKGROUND Palliative care focuses on improving the quality of life of people affected by life-threatening illnesses, including the prevention and relief of suffering through identification, assessment and treatment.1 This care extends to family members, and encompasses physical, psychological, social and spiritual support. Home nursing and care organisations are key providers of community-based palliative care, with staff often the linchpin, in supporting palliative clients, organising and providing care, coordinating the input of other professionals and of specialist equipment.5 Previous research has identified the difficulties faced by home care nurses in meeting their clients' palliative care needs, such as symptom management and communication, as well as requirements for further training to enhance their knowledge and confidence of caring for palliative clients.5-7 In this context, generalist palliative care is delivered by health and care professionals with broad clinical responsibilities who provide primary, ongoing care;and have established relationships with the person and their care community.2 This is distinct from specialist palliative care services which support complex needs through multidisciplinary teams with specialised palliative care training. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION Thematic analysis identified the following overarching themes: 1) targeted education increased staff knowledge and confidence, but more is needed;2) collaborative teamwork with effective communication and information sharing underpins a successful generalist-specialist partnership;3) the home care setting is unique and requires accessible systems and processes.

ABSTRACT

The Coronavirus pandemic has caused major change across the world and in the National Health Service. In order to cope and help limit contagion, numerous institutions recognised the need to adjust clinical practice quickly yet safely. In this paper, we aim to describe the changes implemented in a general surgery department at a district general hospital in the United Kingdom. Across the surgical specialties, frameworks, protocols and guidelines have been established locally and nationally. The aerosol generating procedures involved in general surgery required us to alter our daily activities. Modifications to patient management were necessary to try and reduce viral spread. Staff wellbeing was heavily promoted in order to help maintain the frontline workforce. A holistic approach was required.

The World Health Organization (WHO) describes interprofessional practice (IPP) as "...multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds working] together with patients, families, caregivers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care" (WHO. 2010. The WHO deemed that interprofessional education and practice (IPEP) is vital to attain a workforce that Is ready and able to care for local health needs through teamwork and collaboration (WHO. 201 Oh Interprofessional teams are critical in the care of acute, chronic, and complex health and social support needs of COVID-19 patients (Michalec & Lamb. 20201.1 PE and IPP are so essential to care that accreditation bodies have come together to provide guidance about how to embed these activities throughout all health professions programs (Health Professions Accreditors Collaborative. 2019). ABSTRACT

Objetivo: investigar o efeito de uma intervenção remota nos sintomas de ansiedade e no uso de álcool em usuários do serviço de Atenção Primária à Saúde. Método: estudo quase experimental, realizado com 1270 participantes que responderam o Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test e a State-Trait Anxiety Inventory 6. Desses, 1033 entrevistados pontuaram para sintomas de ansiedade moderada/severa (STAI-6>3) e uso de risco de álcool moderado/severo (AUDIT-C>3), e receberam as intervenções via chamada telefônica com follow-up de sete e 180 dias. Para análise dos dados utilizou-se um modelo de regressão de efeitos mistos. Resultados: o efeito da intervenção realizada foi positivo na redução dos sintomas de ansiedade entre T0 e T1 (µ=1,6 p<0.001) e na redução do padrão de uso de álcool entre t1 e t3 (µ=1,57 p<0.001). Conclusão: os resultados do follow-up sugerem efeito positivo da intervenção na redução da ansiedade e no padrão de uso de álcool, o qual tende a se manter ao longo do tempo. Há evidências de que a intervenção proposta pode ser uma alternativa para o cuidado preventivo em saúde mental, em situações nas quais a acessibilidade do usuário ou do profissional encontram-se comprometidas.

ABSTRACT

Surgical plume poses a risk to perioperative nurses and the perioperative team as a whole, as well as the operative patient. Surgical plume contains various hazardous components which pose multiple health risks to the perioperative staff who are exposed to it. Further research is required in order to definitively understand the risks to perioperative staff from long-term exposure to surgical plume and to advance current policies and procedures. The current practice standard on surgical plume management from the Australian College of Perioperative Nurses (ACORN) sets out methods of reducing these risks. However, this standard's utility in practice and barriers to its implementation lead to ongoing unnecessary plume exposure. Through adhering to current practice standards and educating perioperative nurses, the risks posed by surgical plume can be mitigated. Thorough education on this topic will empower nurses to advocate for their safety and the safety of their patients, leading to the reduction of surgical plume exposure.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly increased work-related stress and anxiety in healthcare workers worldwide, increasing their potential for burnout. Rural hospitals experienced additional challenges as they often provided care with limited resources and staff. Efforts are made by rural hospitals to mitigate employees' work-related stress and anxiety, but few studies or projects have been published that highlight these efforts. Our evidence-based practice project aimed to answer the question, does the use of a "Zen" or recovery room influence rural healthcare staff stress and anxiety levels during their shift? Sample: The project's convenience sample included 36 healthcare workers and hospital staff in an acute care facility, solely servicing a rural county in north-central Texas. Method: Following the IOWA Model, a literature search was conducted, and IRB review of the project was obtained. A private, restful space was created in a room with soft lighting, a massage chair, aromatherapy, and other various tools for relaxation. From June 2021 – January 2022, all staff were invited to use the room and complete a brief voluntary anonymous survey when they entered and exited the room. An additional short-answer survey was conducted in March 2022 to explore employees' perceptions of the project. Findings: On average, participants reported significantly lower levels of stress and anxiety after using the Zen room. Pre-room anxiety scores significantly predicted participants' post-room stress levels. Barriers to room use included employee's perception of available time and enough staff during the shift to step away from their duties. Conclusion: The availability of private, uninterrupted space decreased staff stress and anxiety and allowed them to return to work with a renewed sense of energy. Rural hospitals would benefit in implementing such a space and conducting further research on the effects of stress and anxiety levels, even as COVID-19 shifts to an endemic disease.

ABSTRACT

In 2018, CAI, an organization that provides national level training and capacity-building developed a TIC implementation model, now delivered in HIV and primary care agencies throughout the United States to integrate TIC into their culture, environment, and service delivery. In 2018, an organization that provides national level training and capacity-building, Cicatelli Associates, Inc. (CAI), developed a TIC implementation model, now delivered in HIV and primary care agencies throughout the United States to integrate TIC into their culture, environment, and service delivery. PWH who have experienced trauma are 58% less likely to adhere to their antiretroviral treatment compared to PHW who have not experienced trauma (Brown. Since 2018, CAI, a national training and technical assistance organization, has developed and implemented a TIC implementation model to build the capacity of primary care agencies and their healthcare staff to integrate TIC throughout their cultures, environments, and service delivery. The motivation for this model is based on the understanding that primary care providers play a critical role in identifying and addressing past trauma with clients, as opposed to simply relying on referrals to external mental health services to support these needs. CAI technical assistance providers offer capacity building and training to staff at these agencies to implement components of the model to ensure successful integration of TIC into agency culture, environment, and service delivery.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: verificar as implicações das atividades práticas no Laboratório de Habilidade e Simulação relacionado à motivação e os sentimentos expressos pelos estudantes universitários quando regressam às atividades presenciais após o isolamento social causado pela pandemia da COVID-19. Método: estudo quase-experimental, com um único grupo, do tipo pré e pós-teste, realizado por meio de uma intervenção educacional baseada no treino de habilidades de administração de medicamentos e punção venosa, com estudantes de medicina de uma universidade pública brasileira. A amostra foi composta por 47 estudantes. Para a coleta de dados, foram utilizados os instrumentos de caracterização dos sujeitos e sentimentos autopercebidos pelos estudantes e a Escala de Motivação Situacional. Resultados: na amostra, 98% referiram falta de atividades práticas durante a pandemia. O sentimento mais frequentemente descrito foi a ansiedade. Após a realização da atividade, observou-se uma mudança na frequência dos sentimentos expressos, embora não se tenha verificado uma mudança significativa nos níveis motivacionais. A Regulação Externa (5,1 – 5,6), a Regulação (6,1 – 6,4) e a Motivação Intrínseca (5,6 – 6,0) apresentaram resultados elevados, demostrando semelhança com os sentimentos relatados pelos alunos. Conclusão: a motivação é essencial para uma aprendizagem eficaz e a utilização de metodologias ativas reforça as habilidades construídas de uma forma efetiva nos estudantes frente ao processo de aprendizagem.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: mapear o conhecimento produzido sobre as repercussões da pandemia COVID-19 na formação em Enfermagem. Método: trata-se de uma scoping review, guiada pelas recomendações da Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewer's Manual realizada em 15 bases de dados eletrônicas e repositórios de teses e dissertações. O protocolo desta revisão foi registrado em Open Science Framework. Os dados foram analisados e sintetizados em duas categorias de análise estabelecidas: aspectos positivos e negativos e estatística descritiva. Resultados: 33 publicações identificadas, os aspectos positivos mais citados foram o desenvolvimento de novas estratégias de ensino adaptadas ao meio virtual e a capacitação dos futuros profissionais na prática clínica do contexto de crise sanitária. Os aspectos negativos estão relacionados às questões psicológicas, como aumento de casos de ansiedade, estresse e solidão entre os estudantes. Conclusão: as evidências sugerem que o ensino remoto foi uma saída emergencial oportuna para a continuidade da formação acadêmica, contudo, esta modalidade educacional apresentou aspectos positivos e negativos que precisam ser repensados para uma melhor sistematização do ensino-aprendizagem em outros contextos que se assemelhem ao da pandemia da COVID-19.
